The medical fraternity of Manipur under the aegis of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Manipur State Branch is all set to join the nationwide demonstration on June 18 called by the Indian Medical Association to protest against assaults on healthcare workers under the slogan “save our saviours”.

To express their solidarity, doctors and health workers will take to the streets tomorrow, wearing black badges and raising banners of “save the saviours” and “stop violence on profession and professionals”.

The protest comes in the wake of a series of assaults on healthcare professionals in the last two weeks in Manipur, Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and other places.

Among their demands include the implementation of central hospital and Health Care Professionals Protection Act with IPC and Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), standardisation and augmentation of security in each hospital, and declaring hospitals as protected zones among others.

Additionally, the doctors have also demanded swift justice under fast-track mode against those accused of violence against healthcare professionals.

However, doctors have assured that despite the demonstration, normal functioning of hospitals will not be affected and doctors will not refrain from performing their duties.
