Assam: Drugs worth Rs 7 cr seized in Karbi Anglong, 2 arrested

In a major breakthrough, the Assam police on Thursday seized a huge quantity of illegal drugs worth Rs 7 crore in international market from Karbi Anglong district.

Based on intelligence inputs, Karbi Anglong district police had conducted a search operation in the Bokajan area and seized over 2 kg of heroin from a vehicle, which was concealed in 164 packets.

Police have arrested two people, including a woman in connection with the case.

According to police officials, the arrested individuals had carried the drugs from Nagaland side.

Significantly, a narco terror angle has been detected in connection with the busting of the big supply chain network.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been personally monitoring the war on drugs in the state, also termed it as a big breakthrough and confirmed the narco terror angle.

“In a big breakthrough, @assampolice has busted a big supply chain network with narco terror angle in Karbi Anglong. Over 2 kg pure heroin worth Rs 7 cr in international market seized. Compliments to Assam Police for relentlessly working on breaking the backbone of drug cartel,” Sarma tweeted.
