The Naga Hoho has issued a statement on the purported news of signing an agreement between the Assam government, the Government of India (GoI) and the various rebel groups of Karbi Anglong for the proposed formation of Karbi Anglong Automous Territorial Council (KAATC) in Assam.

In the statement, the Apex Naga body has advised the concerned parties involved in the talk to take into consideration specific facts before inking the final pact.

The Naga Hoho stated that the land boundary issue among various communities in Karbi Anglong should not be ignored so as to avoid misunderstanding and dispute in the future.

The body also added that Nagas living in the Naga Rengma Hills were kept in the dark when the state of Assam was created and inclusion of land and its inhabitants in the formation of state without their consent is outright injustice and hence account of all stakeholders should be taken before signing any agreement in the near future.

The Naga Hoho further added that the signing in regards to KAATC should not in any way create misunderstanding or hamper the ongoing Indo-Naga political talk. The body has also made it clear that Naga areas should not be included under the purview of the proposed creation of KAATC.

The Naga Hoho urged the GOI and the Assam government to take into account the points stated while dealing with the issue. It further stated that taking any hasty decision may bring more harm than benefit to the people in the region.
