The Assam Police has been carrying out continuous crackdowns on illegal drug trade in the state. As part of its war on drugs, the Kamrup Police on Thursday recovered a large amount of heroin worth Rs 1.5 crore from a gas tanker in North Guwahati.

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. Both hails from Manipur.

Police seized 250 grams of heroin which is worth around Rs 1.5 crore in the international market. The drugs were being brought in a truck from a bottling plant in Dimapur.

The operation at North Guwahati LPG bottling plant was led by DIG Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Kamrup SP Hitesh Chandra Ray, DSP Kalyan Pathak and North Guwahati police station officer in charge Dimpul Goyari.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to inform the development, “#DriveAgainstDrugs. @assampolice hits the interstate supply line again. @KamrupPolice arrests 2 and from a truck recovers 250 grams Heroine priced at Rs. 1.5 Crores in the international markets.”

The Assam government have launched a massive campaign against the drug menace in the state since last month, causing a huge dent in the drug network.
