Assam recorded a dip in new COVID-19 cases, as 5,657 people tested positive for Coronavirus on Wednesday. The fresh cases have been detected out of 63,956 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

Out of the figures, a total of 1,456 cases have been registered in Kamrup Metro alone.

With the latest tally, the positivity rate has now decreased to 8.85 percent while the recovery rate in the state stood at 85.74 percent. 71 more patients have succumbed to the infection.

Meanwhile, a partial-lockdown has been imposed in Assam for the next 15 days, starting tomorrow, in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah and DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta listed the fresh SOPs that will come into effect from tomorrow.

As per the new SOPs, now All shops and commercial establishments shall shutdown at 1 PM on all days. Offices, both government and non-government shall shutdown for 15 days.

There shall be total ban on movement of individuals from 2 PM to 5 AM daily except for exemptions specified in a special order.

Further, DGP Bhaskar Mahanta stated that there will be zero tolerance policy for people flouting rules in containment zones or otherwise. He said that people will have to strictly adhere to wearing masks and follow social distancing protocols, and non-adherence to protocols would invite harsh charges, amounting to ‘attempt to murder’.
