Mizoram Deputy CM Tawnluia tests COVID-19 positive

Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister and Mizo National Front (MNF) vice president Pu Tawnluia has tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. Tawnluia developed mild symptoms and was placed under home isolation.

Tawnluia developed mild symptoms and was placed under home isolation. His health condition is said to be stable.

The 77-year-old leader was elected from Tuichang assembly constituency in the last assembly polls held in November 2018. He was also the state home minister for two terms between 1998 and 2008.

Mizoram on Saturday registered 235 cases of COVID-19, taking the overall cases tally to 7,382. The active cases now stands at 1,906 while 5,459 people have recovered from the disease.

Meanwhile, the state government has announced a 7-day complete lockdown from May 10 to May 17 to contain the spread of COVID-19. Lockdown is already in force in Aizawl and other district headquarters.
