In the wake of the surge in COVID-19 cases, the Meghalaya government has imposed complete lockdown in the East Khasi Hills district, informed Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday.

The lockdown will come to force from 8 PM today and will remain applicable till 5 AM of May 10.

Taking to Twitter, Conrad Sangma tweeted, “In view of the prevailing #Covid situation, Govt. has decided to impose complete #lockdown in East Khasi Hills district from 8 PM of 5th May till 5 AM of 10th May 2021″

Sangma further stated that weekend lockdown will be imposed in all other districts of the state.

Meanwhile, the exams scheduled for 6-7 May has been postponed to 11-12 May and the education department will soon issue a notification regarding the same.

All Cabinet minister have been directed to visit the districts within the state and assess the situation, following which the state government will take necessary measures.

The state has registered 268 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of active cases to 2,136.
