A massive earthquake of magnitude 6.7 on the Richer scale rocked Guwahati and different parts of Assam on Wednesday morning.

The National Center for Seismology reported the 6.7M quake in Tezpur, Assam at 7:51 a.m. local time, and said it occurred at a depth of 17 kilometers.

The earthquake lasted for several seconds.

Aftershocks were also experienced in some parts of the state at around 8:05 AM.

Its effects were felt in the neighbouring areas and reports of damage to property are coming in from across the state.

No casualty has been reported so far.
