The All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM), together with the Kuki Students’ Organisation and the All Naga Students’s Association Manipur have imposed an emergency shutdown in all the Hill Districts of the state.
The latest development comes after three ATSUM leaders were arrested by the Manipur Police over the agitation launched by ATSUM on the delay over ADC elections in Manipur.
ATSUM leaders Simthar Jajo, Khaiminlen Doungel and Kakai Singsit were arrested by Imphal West Police earlier this morning.
Disappointed with the alleged unresponsive attitude of the State government towards its demands, ATSUM had imposed total closure on all the govt offices in all the hill districts of the state.
It may be mentioned here that the organisation had been relentlessly demanding for timely installation of the Autonomous District Council, which is the grassroot democratic institution in the hill districts.
The ADC elections have been delayed by 6 to 7 months now.
