Attempts to repatriate a Myanmar national at Manipur’s Border town Moreh failed, after Myanmar Immigration Officials refused to take back the civilian until they receive directions from their superiors.

Rozy Akhtar, a minor Myanmar national suspected to be a victim of human trafficking was brought to India from Bangladesh illegally some years ago.

Although the 14-year-old girl was scheduled to be deported either on March 31 or April 1, the Myanmar Army kept the Manipur administration waiting for two days.

However, on Wednesday, a team of Cachar Police accompanied her to the Indo-Myanmar Border in Manipur’s Moreh Town and attempted to sent back to her country. But repatriation failed as Myanmar, which is currently under Military rule, replied that until they receive orders from their superiors, they can’t open the gate to receive Rozy.

The minor belongs to the Myanmar Rohingya community. Earlier, she had written to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and requested the Union Government to send her back to her country.

Meanwhile, her parents are reportedly staying in a refugee camp in Bangladesh.
