The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over probe into the grenade attack outside Manipur Raj Bhawan on January this year.

The top investigating agency took over the case after preliminary investigation revealed that the attack was carried at the behest of Myanmar-based commanders of United National Liberation Front or UNLF.

The ministry of home affairs (MHA) handed over the probe to the NIA last week after which the agency has registered a case under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), explosive substances act as well as attempt to murder.

On January 19, around 4.30 pm two motorcycle borne miscreants had lobbed a Chinese made hand grenade at the security personnel deployed at the main entrance of the Raj Bhawan. However, no casualty or injury was reported in the attack.

Meanwhile, police made three arrests in connection with the case.
