The Cachar district in Assam has created a world record for the longest street art on voter awareness. The record was created for making the longest street rangoli at a stretch of 8.1 km road from Dolu market to Hatichera on Sunday, March 14.

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the district administration under Systematic Voters Education and Electronics Participation (SVEEP) organised the program to spread awareness among voters to exercise their constitutional right in the upcoming assembly elections.

Around 1,500 participants took part in the record breaking event. The Rangoli measured a record 26,837 ft or 8.18 km in length and 6 ft in width.

The adjudicator from India Book of records, Jitendra Kumar Jain monitored the whole event. The official observer along with his team, watched the entire process and declared it the longest street rangoli.

“There had been efforts in the past for spreading voting awareness in the past but as far as longest rangoli is concerned, today’s rangoli is the longest in the world,” Jitendra Kumar Jain said.

The mega awareness program was attended by people from several sections of society, including college and university students, tea garden workers, police officers, CRPF, police and army personnel, who voluntarily offered their services, making it a inclusive exercise.

Speaking on the occasion Cachar district Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli said, “As far we know, the record for drawing the longest rangoli in India is four kilometres. But we were not running after any record. If it was only to break the record, a four-and-a-half kilometre-long rangoli was enough. Our main objective was to make people aware and we wanted to involve them in the process.”

The state of Assam goes to polls in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
