Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Tuesday cautioned State Finance and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to stay alert after receiving inputs about a conspiracy to target the top BJP leader.

Three persons including Vice President of ULFA (pro-talk faction) Pradip Gogoi have been arrested by the Crime Branch of Assam Police for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to attack the high profile minister.

Gogoi and two others were arrested based on secret information. They have been remanded to police custody for three days.

The matter came to light after the police intercepted phone calls in which the accused discussed the plot.

Meanwhile, police have tightened security around the NEDA Convener.

Speaking to mediapersons, Sarma said, “I personally am not aware and have not discussed regarding the matter. DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta had called me up and asked me to be careful and the police have also taken action.”
