Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and NPP President Conrad Sangma on Friday reiterated that several BJP leaders as well two of its MLAs want state party president Ernest Mawrie removed.

Talking to newspersons, Conrad Sangma said that he has spoken to BJP MLAs AL Hek and Shanbor Shullai in this regard. Quoting both the MLAs, Sangma said that they are in favour of removing Ernest Mawrie.

Sangma added that even national BJP leaders are unhappy over Ernest Marwrie’s handling of affairs.

It may be mentioned that Meghalaya BJP president Mawrie has been vocal on the issue of alleged corruption in the state.

The Chief Minister added that his government is ready to initiate thorough probe into the alleged anomalies in to the three district councils in Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, BJP president Ernest Mawrie taking a dig at the NPP National President termed the statement as a ‘nervous reaction’ to the various allegations raised by the BJP and dared to prove his claim.

Mawrie questioned how the NPP National President was interfering into their matters.

The BJP state chief said that he is the national president of NPP, not BJP and he is surprised by his statement that ninety percent of the party workers including the party MLAs wants him out.

Differing from the statement of the Chief Minister that several BJP leaders want the ouster of the State BJP President, BJP’s lone cabinet minister and MLA AL Hek has admitted that the matter was discussed between him and the Chief Minister but a final decision in this regard will be taken by the BJP itself.

Shortly after the statement of the Chief Minister, Hek said reiterated that though this matter has been discussed that this is an internal matter of the party and it should be left to the party itself to finally decide on the matter.

Hek also said that he is fine if Ernest Mawrie continues to be the president or even if Sanbor Shullai is appointed as the new president but the decision should be taken collectively.
