Senior Congress leader and Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope on Wednesday made it clear that his daughter will not contest the Mawryngkneng by-elections.

The Mawryngkneng assembly seat fell vacant after the demise of Pyngrope’s son and two time MLA David Nongrum.

The younger sister of late David Nongrum, Abigail is currently the Law Officer of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

Talking to newsmen, Pyngrope said that none from his family will contest the by-election and he has communicated the same to the party.

He maintained that the Congress party has a base and will surely get a proper candidate for the seat. He also assured to extend all support to the candidate.

It may be mentioned that Mawryngkneng MLA David Nongrum breathed his last on February 2 last following cardiac arrest.
