At a time when the Meghalaya BJP is demanding the resignation of state home minister Lahkmen Rymbui, the home minister has found support from an unlikely side in the form of state health minister AL Hek, who is also a prominent BJP leader in the state.

Hek said that Rymbui cannot be blamed for the mining accident that took place in East Jaintia Hills district last month. Hek, while going contrary to the statements of his party chief Ernest Mawrie who is holding Rymbui responsible for the incident, said that the home minister cannot be blamed for an incident that took place in a mining area.

He also said that just as the health minister cannot be blamed for a mishap that happens in a hospital, the same logic can also be applied in Rymbui’s case.

It may be mentioned that six workers in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district were killed in an accident when they were working in an abandoned coal mine.

The coal mine workers hailed from Karimganj district of Assam and were digging a tunnel on late in one of the coal mines near Rymbai village.
