Two new foot-over bridge with lifts, escalators inaugurated in Guwahati

Assam Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday inaugurated two foot-over bridge in Guwahati’s G.S. Road area.

The newly constructed foot-over bridges located at Ganeshguri (near Apollo Hospital) and Christian Basti (near post office) are equipped with escalators and lifts, which will be operational from 7 AM to 2 AM on a daily. The bridges will be under 24 hours CCTV surveillance to avoid any untoward incident.

The 16.75 metres long overbridge at Christian Basti has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 10,06,71,000, while the 20.68 metres long foot-over bridge at Ganeshguri has been constructed at a sanctioned amount of Rs. 9,88,00,000.

Special features of the footbridges include automated elevator and ramp approach for divyanga person, two-way escalators, granite flooring, stainless steel railing, aluminium composite panelled ceiling, 2 staircases, open space and gardening. Notably, the bridges have been constructed with Switzerland technology.

It is to be mentioned that the construction of the foot-over bridge has been completed four months prior to its estimated date.

While inaugurating the newly constructed foot-over bridges, the health minister said that the city will have seven more foot–over bridges by March this year.
