In yet another shocking case of mob lynching, a youth in Tripura was mercilessly beaten to death on suspicion of theft.
The youth identified as Prasenjit Saha left home in search of work on Saturday and was resting in the GB Bazaar area when a mob attacked him suspecting burglary. It was only on Monday afternoon that the youth’s family members came to know about the incident and rushed to the hospital after receiving the news of his demise.
Police have arrested two persons in connection with the crime, identified as Madhusudhan Saha and Haripada Biswas, and produced the duo before the court. The court in its hearing has sent both the accused to 5 days of police remand and asked officials to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.
It needs to be mentioned here that this is not the first case of mob lynching in the state. There have been several instances of mob lynching in Tripura in the last two years.
A case in point, an employee of the fire service department, identified as Biswajit Debbarma, lost his life at Panisagar last month, after being lynched by an irate mob.
Likewise, in September 2019, a man was lynched by a mob in the state’s Unakoti district for allegedly stealing electronic items. In 2018, public announcer Sukanta Chakraborty, was beaten to death after a mob branded him as a child lifter involved in human organ pulling racket.
While the victim’s family waits for justice to prevail, it has now become imperative for the law and order system of Tripura to introduce stricter measures in preventing instances of mob lynching in the future.
