Meghalaya’s Lakadong Turmeric, widely known as the Golden Spice was launched through Neutraceutical company Mt. Meru Medicines in USA via video conference on Wednesday.

The turmeric farmers group in Meghalaya under a local entrepreneur collaborated with Mt. Meru Medicines, a company from San Diego to market Lakadong Turmeric in Nutraceutical form for the US market.

“Meghalaya’s Golden Spice Lakadong Turmeric goes international!,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced via Twitter who attended the webinar despite being in home isolation following Coronavirus infection. 

Happy to launch Lakadong Turmeric through Neutraceutical company Mt. Meru Medicines in USA via VC with Hon’ble Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar,” Conrad Sangma added.

The webinar hosted by the Agriculture Department was attended by Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, Union Agricultural Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Consul General of India in San Francisco, Ambassador Dr TV Nagendra Prasad along with other US participants.

“In a state with over 80% farmers it is important that their needs are identified and met through schemes targeted towards upscaling their production,”  Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said.

Tomar added that it is a matter of pride that haldi (turmeric) from India has reached the seven seas. He assured the chief minister that the Centre would provide all the assistance in this and other farmer related ventures.
