Emmanuel Macron, President of France, has tested positive for COVID-19, the French presidency said in a statement on Thursday.

The 42-year-old’s diagnosis was confirmed after a RT-PCR test was carried out as he started showing symptoms.

“This diagnosis was established after a RT-PCR test that was carried out as soon as the first symptoms appeared,” the statement said. It did not reveal what those symptoms were and when they first appeared.

Mr. Macron will be working in isolation for the next seven days, the statement added.

The country has imposed an overnight curfew this week to help deal with soaring cases.
