Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday paid his last respects to the three-time Chief Minister from Assam, Tarun Gogoi, who passed away on Monday evening after a long battle with post-COVID-19 complications.

Gandhi and other central leaders of the Congress party reached Guwahati and directly headed towards Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, where Gogoi’s mortal remains have been kept since Tuesday evening.

After paying tributes to the veteran Congress leader, Gandhi also visited the former Chief Minister’s official residence in Dispur to meet the bereaved members of Gogoi’s family, including his MP son Gaurav Gogoi.

“Gogoiji was my Guru, teacher. He explained Assam to me. It’s a personal loss for me,” Rahul told reporters.

“Gogoi was not just a leader of Assam, but he was a formidable CM. He was a national leader. He inspired us by bringing the people of Assam together, by bringing peace to the state. He did great service to Assam and he did tremendous service to India,” Rahul added.
