An Army jawan from lower Assam’s Dhubri district is among the four Indian Army personnel killed in the multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) from Gurez to Uri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

Haradhan Ray from Futukibari Medhipara in the Sapatgram area of Dhubri district made the supreme sacrifice for the country while guarding the Line of Control (LoC).

Ray had joined the force in 2001. He left behind his parents, wife and a son. The death of the soldier descended a pall of gloom in his village.

In the multiple violations of ceasefire by the Pakistani troops, four Army personnel, a BSF Sub-Inspector and six civilians were killed along the LoC.

Ministry of Defence spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia said Pakistan used mortars and targeted civilian areas in India. “Our troops retaliated, causing casualties and substantial damage to Pakistan army’s infrastructure across the LoC. Several ammo and fuel dumps and multiple terrorist launch pads were damaged,” he said.

“Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation along the LoC spread across multiple sectors, including Dawar, Keran, Uri and Naugam. Suspicious movement was observed by our troops at the forward posts along the LoC in the Keran sector,” Col Kalia said.
