Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched EOS-01, an earth observation satellite intended for applications in agriculture, forestry and disaster management along with 9 international customer satellites, on board the PSLV-C49 launch vehicle from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Saturday.
The rocket, in its 51st flight, lifted off at 3:12 PM, instead of the scheduled time of 3:02 PM. The launch was delayed by 10 minutes due to bad weather and debris in the flight path.
The EOS-01 successfully separated from the fourth stage of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C 49, along with all nine customer satellites and injected into their intended orbits, ISRO said.
“#EOS01 successfully separated from fourth stage of #PSLVC49 and injected into orbit #ISRO,” ISRO tweeted.
“#ISRO #EOS01 All nine customer satellites successfully separated and injected into their intended orbit #PSLVC49,” ISRO said in another tweet.
Shortly after the launch, Prime Minister Modi tweeted, offering the space organisation his congratulations.
“I congratulate ISRO and India’s space industry for the successful launch of PSLV-C49/EOS-01 Mission today. In the time of COVID-19, our scientists overcame many constraints to meet the deadline,” the Prime Minister said.
ISRO Chief K Sivan said the team raised to the occasion during the pandemic, worked as per the COVID guidelines, without compromising on quality. “It’s really heartening to see all ISRO employees doing quality work at this time,” adding space activity cannot be done by working from home.
This is the space agency’s first launch since a nationwide coronavirus lockdown was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 23.
