The political row over the Miya museum has escalated to a new high. The war of words over Congress MLA Sherman Ali’s proposal to set up a Miya Museum continues to evoke sharp reactions.

The issue has now snowballed into a political controversy as the BJP has alleged that the proposal was given for making political gains.

A day after Sherman Ali defended his proposal to set up a Miya Museum in the Sankardev Kalakshetra, State Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has come out all guns blazing against the Congress MLA.

Briefing newspersons, Sarma reiterated that the BJP government will not in any way consider for setting up Miya Museum in the Sankardev Kalakshetra. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Congress MLA Sherman Ali had made this proposal for making political gains.

State BJP president Ranjit Dass echoed similar sentiments and said that MLA Sherman Ali has a political motive behind this move. Dass also reiterated that his party will not allow any such idea to be turned into reality.

On the other hand, Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan in a blazing attack accused the MLA of trying to create communal differences. Prasanta Phukan also asked state Congress president Ripun Bora to take control of the party MLA.

AGP leader and minister in the Sarbananda Sonowal cabinet, Keshab Mahanta said that the government would never consider such a proposal.

The row has escalated after MLA Sherman Ali specified that lungis and saris worn by immigrant Muslim communities residing in the Char-Chaporis or in lower Assam would be exhibited in the Miya Museum.
