Mizoram will launch a zero-tolerance drive under the banner “COVID-19 No Tolerance Fortnight” for 14 days starting from October 26. The aim of this drive is to break the chain of the rising local transmission case in the state.

The decision was taken at the emergency meeting of various departments like health, home, disaster, urban development, school education, and a church body and doctor association presided over by health minister Dr. R Lalthangliana.

As per the state health department officials, the current situation of the state is vulnerable due to the rising local transmission cases of Covid-19 and some of the patients have still not been traced which has led to the vulnerability of the situation.

The government is hopeful to break the chain of the rising local transmission cases by launching the no tolerance drive two weeks starting from next Monday during which no tolerance would be given to people who violate unlock guidelines, Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and the Mizoram Containment and Prevention of Covid-19 Ordinance.

The State Executive Committee of Mizoram State Disaster Management Authority will prepare new guidelines for the “COVID-19 No Tolerance Fortnight” drive period.

Mizoram on Friday reported 18 cases, pushing the state’s Covid-19 caseload to 2,359.

MNF MLA from Lunglei North assembly constituency Dr. Vanlaltanpuia, who is also the chairman of Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC), 2 BSF jawans, a 1 month-old infant and 6-year-old child are among the newly infected persons.

The number of Covid-19 cases in the state stands at 184 and the recovery rate is 92.20 per cent as a total of 2,175 people have already recovered from the disease as per reports.
