Manipur on Friday recorded the highest single-day spike with 249 new COVID-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total cases count to 3,466.

Of the fresh cases, 56 were detected at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and 143 cases were confirmed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

“In the past twenty-four hours, 249 persons (57 males, 27 females) from the general population and 165 persons from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases,” a Manipur government release said.

They have been shifted to Covid Care facilities, while all necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

Meanwhile, 21 persons were discharged from various hospitals and Covid Care Centre’s across the state after they were found COVID-19 negative on RT PCR test.

While a total of 1,926 persons recovered from the disease, the number of active cases in the state stands at 1,530.

Today, two males aged 76 years and 28 years from Kangpokpi district and Chandel district respectively expired due to Covid-19,” the release said.

Manipur has so far reported 10 deaths due to the viral infection.
