One more person has tested positive for COVID-19 in Meghalaya on Wednesday, taking the state’s tally to 44.

The fresh case is a high-risk contact of a 72-year-old individual who had earlier tested positive for COVID-19.

Of the total 44 cases, 30 are active while 13 persons have recovered and one succumbed to the virus.

Taking to Twitter Chief Minister Conrad Sangma wrote, “One high risk contact of a positive patient has tested positive for COVID 19 in Shillong. Person is under medical supervision.”

The new patient hails from a village in Ri-Bhoi district and has no travel history.

Director of Health Services, Aman Warr informed that 13 high risk individuals in Ri Bhoi district and 16 others in East Khasi Hills who came in contact with the 72-year-old patient have been traced out and their samples have already been collected.

The health official further stated that contact tracing is on and surveillance teams have been pressed into service.
