Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday informed that a 70-year-old person from Umsamlem village, Ri-Bhoi District has tested positive, taking the overall cases tally in the State to 40.

Sangma said that the person had respiratory problems and was admitted in the isolation ward of Robert Hospital since day one. His samples were collected and was later found positive for coronavirus today.

To a query about the individual travel history and whether this is the first case of community transmission, Sangma said that it is wrong to draw such conclusion as the contact tracing is on and facts are being ascertained.

Earlier yesterday, 3 more returnees to the state from Delhi and Uttarakhand had tested positive for the deadly virus. They are currently under quarantine.

The state has so far detected a total of 40 positive cases. There are 26 active positive cases, 13 have recovered and one dead.
