Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the Corona Care Centre in the state at IIM Umsawli, Shillong on Thursday.
With a capacity of over 250 beds, it said to be the largest such facility in the state. The COVID-19 facility will soon be operational and used for isolation.CM Sangma lauded IIM for their support and several other departments who came together to renovate and set up the facility in a span of month’s time.
Talking to newsmen, the Chief Minister said that it has only been possible with the support extended by IIM and the State government renovated the entire place within one month’s time.
He informed that the government intends to put positive patients, if any belonging to the Category A and B in this facility which are mild cases, adding that this is the biggest centre in the State.
The centre includes separate floors for the staff, suspected cases, positive patients if any. There are individual rooms with toilets attached to it.
A medical team comprising of four doctors, twelve nurses, three lab technicians, pharmacists and X-Ray technicians is posted at the centre along with a support team.
A police unit has also been stationed for 24 hours duty at the Corona Care Centre.
