Around 75,000 people in quarantine in Assam will be released on Friday. They were put under quarantine in different parts of the state as a preventive measure against COVID-19.

This was informed by state health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who said that health workers across state visited the homes of those in quarantine to check on their symptoms.

Sarma added that as per inputs, close to 75,000 people, including those who had come from outside just before the lockdown, will be out of quarantine by tomorrow.

Sarma who was at the Srirampur quarantine centre, where close to 500 people were in quarantine said the next task was to ensure that those who are still outside the state are allowed entry in a phased manner.

Earlier, the health minister said that release of 75 thousand people from quarantine will be a big relief for Asha, ANM, MPW and other health workers.

So far, Assam has reported 28 COVID-19 positive cases. On Wednesday, though no positive case was detected in the state, contact tracing of Tripura’s first COVID-19 patient led to quarantining several people in Guwahati.

The 44-year-old woman from Tripura reportedly visited several sites in Guwahati and stayed at Hotel Sukhmani in Paltan Bazar area. The hotel has been sealed and the employees are under quarantine.

A family of priest of Kamakhya Temple has also been put under quarantine after it came to light that the woman had spent a night at their residence.
