Over 3,000 samples have been tested for coronavirus in Meghalaya with all negative results, however the State government is not taking any chances and has come up with four dedicated quarantine centres – two each in Shillong and Tura.

Informing this Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that so far 6 thousand people have been screened, 3,000 tested and the state does not have a single positive case.

Talking about the measures put in place to strengthen the preparedness level in the state, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the state government has come up with four dedicated quarantine centre in the state. Two centres in Shillong, IIM campus and MATI building Mawdiangdiang and two centres in Tura, West Garo Hills.

He informed that fully equipped doctors, nurses and para medical team will be deputed at the four centres. Talking about the bed strength, Tynsong said that the bed strength of the two centres in Shillong and Tura is 200 respectively.

On the availability of food grains, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the stock is still sufficient.

Informing that the lifting of rice allotment for the month of April is in, he said that the State government has already written to Food Corporation of India or FCI to release the allotment for May and June and is awaiting to receive it as soon as possible.

Tynsong also informed that the stock of the open market is good and the government is fully prepared to intervene and help to bring food grains from outside the state like Harayana and Bihar.
