GMCH doctors won’t be allowed to engage in private practice: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that doctors serving at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will not be allowed to practice at any private hospital.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that doctors serving at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will not be allowed to practice at any private hospital.

Sarma added that the doctors at the GMCH, will be entitled to a new pay-scale which is at par with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) doctors. The health minister has asked doctors who wish to serve at private hospital to tender their resignations.

Himanta Biswa Sarma who also holds the education portfolio today said that the government will soon introduce a new law regarding transfer and posting of teachers.

According to the law, teachers posted in designated schools will have to compulsorily serve for a period of 10 years.

During this period, if any teacher violates the new law will be imprisoned for a period of 3 years.
