Delhi on the boil; 10 dead in clashes

At least 10 persons have died in the violence that erupted in Northeast Delhi on Monday.

Five more deaths have been reported today as fresh cases of arson and violence has been reported from Kardampuri and Bhajanpura areas in Delhi.

Maujpur area also continues to be tense with rioters destroying private properties and indulging in arson.

Journalists have also been attacked with rioters forcing them to delete videos and photos of the violence.

Unconfirmed reports arrived of a news channel reporter being shot at by protesters while covering the violence at Maujpur. The reporter is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today chaired a review meeting to take stock of the situation in the National Capital.

The meeting decided to form peace committees in sensitive areas with active participation of local MLAs.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held an emergency cabinet meeting to review the current situation.

Briefing newspersons, Kejriwal termed the violence as unfortunate and said that issues cannot be resolved in such manner. The Delhi chief minister also appealed every section of the society to maintain peace and calm.
