The Manipur Alliance for Child Rights or MACR demanded timely disbursement of compensation to the families of rape victims in the state.
According to the convener of MACR, Montu Ahanthem, delay or non-payment of compensation is causing a lot of trouble to the families of rape victims.
He said that with an average of around 78 cases of child sexual assault reported from Manipur, it was officially proposed that it should not take more than two months to compensate the families of rape victims. But this constant delay in disbursement of money caused mental harassment to the victim’s family.
MACR urged the state government to allocate adequate budgetary provision.
They have also demanded the government to set up fast track special courts for speedy trial of POCSO cases among other things.
