BJP top gun Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the Centre and the state have taken note of the statements of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA-Independent) chief Paresh Baruah who has indicated that the outfit may be ready for talks.
Sarma however, refrained from making any comment on the ULFA-Independent’s sovereignty demand before commencement of any talks.
Significantly, Sarma added that if Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah visit BTR on February 7th, the issue of talks with the ULFA-Independent would be conveyed to them.
It may be mentioned that on a day, senior Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma offered an olive branch to the ULFA-Independent on behalf of the Centre, chief of the rebel group Paresh Baruah indicated that the outfit may be ready for discussion, given the core issue of sovereignty remains the prime agenda for the talks.
In an exclusive conversation with the managing editor of our group channel News Live, Zarir Hussain, Baruah said in a democracy like India, there is always room for discussion and the ULFA-Independent may be ready for talks if the core issue is addressed at the negotiating table.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has mentioned that the Centre will be more than happy to welcome the ULFA-Independent leaders to mainstream.
