NIA files charge sheet against 5 alleged members of terror outfit in Barpeta JMB module case

The NIA has filed a chargesheet against 5 alleged members of terror outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh in the Barpeta JMB module case. The five were accused of procuring weapons and ammunition in order to commit terrorist acts.
An NIA release said that the charge sheet was filed in an NIA special court, Guwahati against the five accused identified as Hafizur Rahman, Yakub Ali, Sariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Md. Hafiz Safikul Islam.
It was on July 29, 2019, acting on a source information about the presence of one trained JMB suspect, Barpeta Police conducted search at the house of Hafizur Rahman.
During the search, one country made revolver, four rounds of live ammunition and Jihadi literature were recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case was registered by Barpeta PS against Hafizur Rahman.
On the disclosure of Hafizur Rahman, other trained cadre of JMB Yakub Ali, Sariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Md. Hafiz Safikul Islam were subsequently arrested.
The local police carried out the initial investigation of the case, which was subsequently handed over to NIA. Investigation has revealed that the accused persons are trained members of JMB, a proscribed terrorist organization in India & Bangladesh.
Accused persons were recruited by one Sahanur Alom of Barpeta District. Sahanur Alom was earlier arrested by NIA in connection with the Burdwan Blast Case in 2014. He has already been convicted and sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment in Burdwan Blast Case on charges of conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in India and recruiting & training other members of JMB.
