644 militants from eight rebel outfits lay down arms in Guwahati

As many as 644 insurgents from eight rebel groups laid down their arms in presence of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, including top Army and police officials in a official ceremony at GMCH auditorium in Guwahati.

Among those who surrendered are rebels from the ULFA-Independent, NDFB-S, Rabha National Liberation Front, National Liberation Front of Bengalis, KLO and NLSA among others.

The rebels laid down their arms in the presence of top Assam government leaders and officers including Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and GOC 4 Core Lt General Manoj Pandey.

The development comes barely a week after anti-talks faction of the NDFB signed a ceasefire agreement with the Centre and State Government to find a peaceful solution to the decades’ long Bodo conflict.
