Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura celebrate Statehood Day; PM Modi greets people

The northeastern states of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura celebrated their 48th Statehood Day on Tuesday.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura on their Statehood Day.

The Prime Minister in a series of tweets greeted the people of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura on their Statehood Day and hailed the traditions and culture of the northeastern states.

In Manipur, the official celebration was held at the 1st Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal West. Chief Minister N Biren Singh attended the official function.

Tripura too celebrated its statehood day today. On the occasion, an official function was held at the Rabindra Bhawan in state capital Agartala.

Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Biplab Deb, IPFT chief NC Debbarma among others attended the programme. College and school students from various parts of the state also participated in the celebration.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya celebrated its 48th statehood day with cultural fanfare immersed in remnants of the Hill State Movement that led up to the declaration of Meghalaya as a separate state.

Traditional songs and dances marked the celebration at the Ooh Soso Tham Auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma stressed on the need to remember the glorious past, document it and pass it on to the younger generation.
