In a significant move, Assam Public Works (APW) president Abhijeet Sharma on Monday met with newly appointed National Register of Citizens coordinator Hitesh Dev Sharma at the NRC head office in Guwahati.

Sharma, who openly criticised former Assam NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela, met with Hitesh Dev Sharma and took stock of the state government’s further plans with the NRC updation process.

After the meet, Sharma stated that they put forth two main demands for the newly appointed NRC coordinator.

First is for a third-party audit by some internationally acclaimed organisation into the functioning of the software’s application and IT infrastructure utilised in the process of NRC.

Secondly, a petition for requesting a high-level probe over the huge amount of corruption allegedly committed by the previous NRC authority headed by Prateek Hajela with his close aides.
