Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with a delegation of the AGP on the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill at the Assam House in New Delhi.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance and Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present in the meeting.
The AGP delegation was led by party president Atul Bora. Top AGP leaders Keshab Mahanta, Phanibhusan Choudhury, MP Birendra Prasad Baishya, besides others were part of the AGP delegation.
Chief Minister Sonowal, Himanta Biswa Sarma and the AGP delegation accorded a warm welcome to the Home Minister.
After Home Minister Amit Shah met with stakeholders from Northeast including the states of Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh earlier in the day, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma briefing newspersons said that 99 percent of the stakeholders had opposed the earlier version of the CAB.
Contrary to this, the Home Minister after consultations with the stakeholders identified the different aspects of the Bill that was contentious for different groups and organisations.
Sarma also added that Home Minister Amit Shah has assured that the Centre would also implement Clause 6 of Assam Accord.
Meanwhile, Assam BJP president Ranjit Dass said that talks between Shah and the stakeholders from Assam was satisfactory. Dass stated that Centre will not make any move that will threaten the identity of the indigenous people.
