Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested from Choraibadi in Assam’s Karimganj district near the border with neighbouring Tripura.
The trio had illegally entered India via Bangladesh and were bound for Guwahati when they were apprehended at Choraibadi by the police.
While the Nigerians claimed to be international footballers, no proper documents could be found from them. They have been identified as Chinoso Philip, Okechukwo Simeon and Naimeka Bernard. All three reportedly hail from Amanbra in Nigeria.
They have been taken into police custody. Nigerian passports and mobile handsets were seized from the trio.
It may be mentioned that earlier on November 4, police had arrested three other Nigerian nationals travelling illegally in a bus at Choraibadi. The arrested included two men and a woman.
