A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived at the Bordumsa police station in Assam’s Tinsukia district to conduct an enquiry into the killing of police personnel Bhaskar Kalita.
The three-member team is looking into the circumstances under which Kalita died from a bullet wound despite wearing a bullet proof jacket.
The case was handed over to the NIA by the State Home Department.
35-year-old Bhaskar Kalita was killed in an encounter with ULFA-Independent militants at Bordumsa last year.
Kalita was leading a team of security personnel to raid a house where a five member team of ULFA cadres had taken shelter. Kalita’s death raised several questions over the quality of bullet proof vests used by security personnel.
