Meghalaya govt mulls mass vaccination amid Japanese Encephalitis outbreak in Garo Hills

In the wake of the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis cases in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills area, the state government is planning to conduct mass vaccination in the entire Garo Hills region.

In the wake of the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis cases in Meghalaya’s Garo Hills area, the state government is planning to conduct mass vaccination in the entire Garo Hills region.

Informing this on Friday, State Health Minister, AL Hek said that the vaccination will be carried out only in the Garo Hills region as of now.

Allaying fears of the public, Hek said that the encephalitis cases detected in state are only clinical in nature and not serious.

He however said that adequate measures are being taken to contain it. Hek further informed that a team of Japanese Encephalitis specialists is slated to reach Garo Hills on Friday to take stock of the situation.
