The BJP-led coalition government in Manipur is in the grip of a major political crisis with NPP national President Conrad Sangma on Friday, expressing his party’s total displeasure in the manner in which chief minister Biren Singh had stripped deputy chief minister and NPP leader Y Joykumar Singh of the finance portfolio following the acute financial crisis in the state.
Conrad Sangma said, the chief minister Biren Singh was aware of the financial mess in his state for quite some time and had assumed the authority of sanctioning expenditure in excess of two crores and therefore it was improper to put the blame on someone else instead of taking responsibility.
The NPP president who is also the chief minister of Meghalaya said he and several top leaders of his party are camping in Delhi and would meet top BJP leaders including party president Amit Shah on Saturday to apprise them of the situation.
It may be mentioned that another coalition partner in Manipur, the NPF had also threatened to pull out of the Biren Singh government alleging high handedness and misbehavior.
