In a shocking development, a sub-inspector serving with the Assam Police have been arrested after he was declared a Foreigner by the Foreigners’ Tribunal.

The police official working with the border division has been identified as Mohammad Sana Ullah, who is a resident of Kolohikakh village in Chaygaon in Kamrup (rural) district.

He was arrested on the basis of a case registered against him in 2008. Soon after being produced before a court, the ex-army jawan was sent to detention centre.

Significantly, Sana Ullah had served the Indian Army for 30 years from 1987 till 2017. Soon after his retirement, Ullah had joined the Assam Police.

Northeast Live has accessed HSLC certificates besides other documents including certificates of promotion as a Junior Commissioned Officer by the President of India in 2012.

Sana Ullah who was born in 1967, had passed his HSLC examination from the government aided Champupara high school in 1985. Besides this, land documents also reveal that Ullah’s father had purchased a plot of land in 1935 that substantiates his Indian citizenship.

The former army jawan who was declared foreigner reiterated that he was an Indian by birth. Meanwhile, the kin of Mohammed Sana Ullah expressed shock and anger over the matter.
