The Supreme Court on Monday said that the Assam Government had never listed lakh of Bangladeshi nationals as foreigners and had allowed them to merge with the local population.

The court has directed Assam Chief Secretary Alok Kumar to personally appear before court on April 8.

The apex court made this observation, while hearing a PIL seeking a direction from the court for humane treatment of immigrants held in detention centres in Assam.
