Reports are stating that BJP’s Pramod Sawant is most likely to be sworn in as the Goa Chief Minister.

Sawant is currently the speaker for the Goa legislative assembly. Sources are also pointing out that the new Chief Minister is likely to take oath today.

Manohar Parrikar’s death last evening has brought down the BJP numbers in the state assembly from 13 to 12. But along with allies, they still have 20 lawmakers in the assembly, where the majority mark is 19.

Currently, hectic politicking is underway in Goa where the Congress is staking claim to government formation after chief minister Manohar Parrikar’s demise.

The Congress which is the single largest party with 14 seats met Governor Mridula Sinha requesting that it should be invited to prove its numbers on the floor of the house.

With the death of Parrikar, the strength of 40-member Goa Legislative Assembly has been reduced to 36.
