In a night marked by historic firsts, the 91st Oscar Awards had its list of winners announced at a glittering ceremony that saw the who’s who of Hollywood turn up to honour the last year’s best works in cinema.
In what did not come as a surprise, Rami Malek ended up winning the Best Actor award for his work in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ where he played Freddie Mercury, the flamboyant frontman of the legendary band Queen.
The Best Actress award was won by British actress Olivia Colman for the film ‘The Favourite.’
In the best picture category, the honour was taken by ‘Green Book’ that ended up winning three trophies in total. The picture also won the Producers Guild prize this year.
The best director award was taken by Alfonso Cuaron for the hot favourite “Roma.”
In the department of best supporting actors, the male trophy was coveted for the second time by Mahershala Ali for his work in the film “Green Book”, while the female trophy in the supporting category went to Regina King for the film “If Beale Street Could Talk.”
Interestingly, “Black Panther” became the first Marvel Studios movie to win in the Oscar awards, that too in three categories.
Meanwhile, the coveted award of Best Foreign Language Film went to “Roma” from Mexico.
