The BJP in Meghalaya is preparing to contest both Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats.

The party has decided to skip the upcoming district council polls to prepare for the Lok Sabha elections.

BJP’s decision to contest both Shillong and Tura seats has come as a blow to the NPP-led MDA coalition’s bid to field a common candidate.

The UDP had already put forward party leader Jeminoh Mawthoh as the common candidate while the NPP was yet to take a call on the issue.

However, with the BJP starting preparations for the Lok Sabha polls, indications are that the coalition partners in the MDA may go ahead to put up candidates separately.
