Upasa Phukan, Daughter of former Assam Home Minister and Well Known Student Leader Bhrigu Phukan Dies

Upasa Phukan was the only child of Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, a prominent leader of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

Upasa Phukan, 28, daughter of former Assam Home Minister and well-known student leader, Bhrigu Phukan, who was a signatory of the Assam Accord of 1985, died after she fell from a 2-storey building. The incident took place at their home in Kharghuli area of Guwahati.

The circumstances surrounding her fall remain unclear, whether it was an accident or a case of suicide.
Following the incident, Upasa Phukan’s body was taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a postmortem examination.

Upasa Phukan was the only child of Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, a prominent leader of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Her father served as a three-term MLA from Jalukbari Assembly Constituency before losing to Himanta Biswa Sarma in the 2001 elections. Bhrigu Kumar Phukan, a significant figure in Assam’s political landscape, passed away on March 20, 2006.
